Privacy Policy

Darpana Astro (“Darpana”, “we”) provides classical Vedic astrology tools. This policy explains what we collect, why, and the choices you have. We try to collect as little as possible and never sell your data.

Information we collect

  • Birth details you enter — date, time and place of birth, and an optional name and gender — used to compute your chart and readings.
  • Account information (only if you register) — your email address and mobile number (both required to create an account), a password (stored only in hashed form) and an optional display name. If you sign in with Google, we receive your Google account’s email and an account identifier from Google.
  • Your saved content — charts and family profiles, life events you record, report requests, and Vastu layouts or floor plans you save while logged in.
  • IP address and approximate location — when you log in, your IP address is used to look up an approximate city, region and country, which we store with your account together with the time you were last seen. We do not collect precise (GPS) location.
  • Activity records — a log of which features are used and when (for example “chart computed” or “report requested”), linked to your account when you are logged in. It does not record page-by-page browsing or the content of your questions. Actions our administrators take on accounts are kept in an audit log that includes the administrator’s IP address and browser details.
  • Basic technical data — device/browser information needed for the app to function and stay secure, and your login session.

Basic chart features can be used without an account; some features require sign-in, which also lets you save your charts.

How we use your information

  • To compute and display your charts, dashas, timing, remedies and other readings.
  • To save your charts to your account and let you return to them.
  • To operate, secure, and improve the service — including account administration and support (our administrators can see account details, approximate location, activity records and saved charts for this purpose), abuse prevention, and understanding which features are used. Product and activity events are recorded for operation, security, support and quality.
  • Authorised staff may open saved charts for support and quality purposes; each such access is recorded in an audit log.
  • To email you account messages and the reports you request, and to reply when you contact us.

We do not sell your personal data, and we do not use it for advertising.

Storage & security

Your data is stored on our servers and we apply reasonable measures to protect it. Birth details are personal, and we treat them with care. Some preferences and your login session are kept in your browser’s local storage so the app works smoothly.

Sharing

We do not sell or share your personal information for anyone else’s marketing. Some information does reach other services that Darpana relies on:

  • ip-api.com — receives your IP address when you log in, to return the approximate location described above. This lookup is currently sent unencrypted (http).
  • Google — if you choose “Sign in with Google”, Google handles that sign-in. If you switch the page language with the 🌐 button, the page text is translated by Google’s website translator, which receives the page content you are viewing.
  • Our email provider — delivers account emails and the reports you request, so it receives your email address and the message or report attachment.
  • Hosting — your data is stored on servers we rent from a hosting provider.

The “Ask” feature’s language model runs on our own server; your questions are not sent to an outside AI service. We may also disclose information where required by law.

Your choices

  • Use without an account — basic chart features can be used without an account; some features require sign-in.
  • Access, correction and account closure — to access or correct your data, contact us. You may request account closure through the Contact page.

Children

Darpana is intended for adults and is not directed at children. Please do not create an account for anyone who is not of legal age in your country.

We may update this policy from time to time; the date above reflects the latest version. Material changes will be reflected here.
